Circolo Canottieri Ortigia
Circolo Canottieri Ortigia (English: Ortigia Rowing Club) is a professional water polo club based in Syracuse, Italy. It was founded in 1928 as a rowing club. Subsequently, due to the failure to replace the boats, the rowing activity took a back seat. Over the years, with the addition of new disciplines such as swimming, water polo and handball, the club has become an example of excellence for sport in Sicily and Italy. The water polo team, until the early seventies, played in the lower leagues.
Having reached Serie A, C.C. Ortigia becomes a point of reference for the organization of important international water polo tournaments. Meanwhile, the women’s team also made its debut in Serie A in 1999, immediately achieving excellent results, including a championship final against Etna Orizzonte Catania in the 2002-2003 season. The youth sector is also very important, which has always been the club’s strong point, achieving excellent results, which have allowed several local players to embark on a brilliant competitive career.
Among the prestigious international trophies won by C.C. Ortigia, including 2 COMEN cups with the men’s team and two LEN cups with the women’s team (2004-2005).
